Great Dog Rescue New England in Andover, MA. They also offer opportunities for fostering if you want to help, but can't make a long term commitment. 

Cape Ann Animal Aid in Gloucester, MA See available animals for adoption on their website.

North East Animal Shelter, located in Salem right on Highland Ave, is a well run facility with lots of dogs and cats of all ages ready for adoption.

The Marblehead Animal Shelter This shelter has cats and kittens primarily but every once in a while will have a dog/puppy up for adoption.

Sweet Paws Rescue is located in Groveland, MA. It isn't open to the public, as it is a foster-based organization.

Forever Home Rescue is another organization based on a network of foster homes.

MSPCA - The MSPCA has three different locations throughout eastern MA and has all different types of pets available.
