After graduating Phillips Academy, Dr. John Grillo attended the University of Massachusetts where he completed Bachelor’s Degrees in both Animal Science and English. In the absence of a veterinary program in New England, he traveled to Perugia, Italy, with his dog, Bobo, and a trunk full of dog biscuits. After thoroughly enjoying his stay in Italy, he received his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from the University of Perugia. With a little regret, Dr. Grillo returned to the states and began to practice veterinary medicine in Staten Island and later in Plainville, MA and Rochester, NH. In 1992 he opened Newbury Animal Hospital in Newbury, MA.
Always an ardent supporter of wildlife, Dr. Grillo spent several years volunteering weekly in the wildlife department at Tufts Medical School. While he enjoys all aspects of veterinary medicine, he has a special interest in general surgery and internal medicine.
Dr. Grillo enjoys spending time with his wife, two daughters as well as his four legged family consisting of three cats and two dogs. The cats are in charge. When he is not practicing veterinary medicine he enjoys sailing and occasionally visits to his beloved Italy.
