Dr. Deborah Burba

Medical Director, Co-Owner

Dr. Burba joins Newbury Animal Hospital as Medical Director and co-owner! She was born and raised in Salem, MA, and graduated from Bishop Fenwick High School. She went on to graduate Magna Cum Laude from Providence College before earning her DVM from NC State College of Veterinary Medicine in 2000.

After completing a small animal medicine, surgery, and emergency medicine internship at VCA Southshore Animal Hospital in 2001, Dr. Burba returned to her hometown of Salem, where she cared for local pets and their families for 11 years. She then spent the past 11 years practicing in Newburyport.

She is thrilled to carry on Dr. Grillo's legacy and looks forward to continuing to serve you and your four-legged family members in this next chapter!

Dr. Burba lives in Amesbury with her husband, Bill; their children, Brittney, Will, and Caroline; and their Black Lab, Fritter.

Dr. John Grillo

Veterinarian

After graduating Phillips Academy, Dr. John Grillo attended the University of Massachusetts where he completed Bachelor's Degrees in both Animal Science and English. In the absence of a veterinary program in New England, he traveled to Perugia, Italy, with his dog, Bobo, and a trunk full of dog biscuits. After thoroughly enjoying his stay in Italy, he received his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from the University of Perugia. Dr. Grillo returned to the states and began to practice veterinary medicine in Staten Island and later in Plainville, MA and Rochester, NH. In 1992 he opened Newbury Animal Hospital in Newbury, MA.

Always an ardent supporter of wildlife, Dr. Grillo spent several years volunteering weekly in the wildlife department at Tufts Medical School. While he enjoys all aspects of veterinary medicine, he has a special interest in general surgery and internal medicine.

Dr. Grillo enjoys spending time with his wife, two daughters as well as his four legged family consisting of two cats and two dogs. The cats are in charge. When he is not practicing veterinary medicine he enjoys sailing and occasional visits to his beloved Italy.

Dr. Kasey Burgos

Veterinarian

Dr. Kasey Burgos grew up in Massachusetts and received her Bachelor's Degree in Biomedical Science from the University of New Hampshire and then went on to the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine to achieve her doctorate degree.

Although she loves large animals including horses and cows, her main interests involve small animal primary care, preventative medicine, and dentistry. She truly enjoys getting to know her clients and helping them develop a strong animal-owner bond. She enjoys building relationships with people to help serve and encourage others.

While not working, Dr. Burgos enjoys spending time with her husband and kids, going to church, exploring the outdoors, working out, as well as watching football and eating pizza!

Dr. Amy Richardson

Veterinarian

Dr. Richardson pursued her lifelong dream of becoming a veterinarian later in life, following earlier careers in Corporate Finance and the Culinary Arts. She has now been practicing small animal medicine in the local area for more than 20 years. Her professional interests include surgery, ultrasound and internal medicine, but what she loves the most is caring for her patients and the people who love them.

Her favorite pastime is to combine her love of travel with her passion for veterinary medicine by using her skills to serve communities around the world. Whether practicing community medicine in small Peruvian communities, teaching surgical skills to fourth year veterinary students in Ecuador, or living in native Inuit and Athabaskan villages in Alaska as a veterinarian for the Iditarod, she is always looking for opportunities to help smaller communities care for their animals. Although she is quick to say that she gains far more from these experiences than she could ever give.

Outside veterinary medicine, Dr. Richardson loves learning languages, particularly Spanish and Greek, writing, cooking in foreign cultures and spending time with her two dogs Siggy and Winnie. But these days her most important job is launching her two children into adulthood as happy, confident young adults.

My name is Lori, I have worked in the veterinary field for many years. I've been at Newbury Animal Hospital since 2020. I have always been an animal lover and absolutely love what I do.

When I'm not at work I enjoy spending time with my husband Bruno, our two girls Gianna & Alexa, and of course our 2 dogs Ella & Indie who are spoiled rotten.
